The ID yesterday called on Nedlac to negotiate a "strike-free period" during the World Cup.
Joe McGluwa, the ID's spokesman for sport, called on the negotiating forum for the government, business and labour to "take immediate steps" to negotiate such a period.
This came after Cosatu warned that mass action against Eskom's electricity price increases could carry on during the soccer tournament."
Although the ID was critical of Eskom's tariff hikes, McGluwa said Nedlac must step in to create a "social dialogue" to avoid strikes during the World Cup.
